John Duncan Max 20 Super Power Mini Wearer
John Duncan has worn hearing aids since the 1990s, after suffering a sudden loss of hearing in one ear. As an active person, who enjoys spending time with family and playing golf with friends, John was looking to further improve his quality of life with a hearing aid solution that could help him hear in and participate more fully in the conversations happening around him. "My hearing aids are very important as they allow me to enjoy a full social life. You can become socially inept at gatherings if you can't hear conversations. It's not just about loudness, it is the clarity of speech that really matters," John explains.

John has recently been fitted with Max™, Unitron's new Super Power hearing instruments, and is enjoying so many benefits including a new level of sound clarity particularly for speech. "My wife was finding it difficult as she was always having to repeat herself. I now find that my ability to clearly hear speech has greatly improved. My wife and grandchildren all speak quite softly, but I can hear them all very clearly now," says John.
John also appreciates how quickly the hearing aids automatically adjusted to different hearing situations. Whether it was moving from noise to quiet or out golfing with friends, "The Max hearing aids "react" fast to changes in sound and I did not lose out on the sound I wanted to hear," says John. While golfing, he can easily hear other members of his foursome – even from a distance across the putting green. Directionality of sound has greatly improved. John can zero in on a golf partner's voice – even if that person is located behind him. And in large social gatherings, such as a golf tournament,
John is also using Unitron's uTV™ 2 accessory, which has made TV watching a much easier experience. "uTV 2 was very easy to set up. I can once again hear stereo sound from the TV, so I can follow along with programs and no longer have to rely on closed captioning. I can even understand shows where the actors have accents!" John also uses the uDirect™ 2 remote accessory to connect to both the TV and his cell phone. He likes that he can use uDirect 2 to safely take a cell phone call directly to his hearing aids when driving, or as a remote to change features on his hearing aids. In fact, he's using the uDirect 2 so much; he would like a second one charging and ready for use for listening to the TV.

Lastly, when asked about using Unitron's binaural phone feature, "The stereo impact is up to another level, just a phenomenal feature!", says John. Prior to using this feature, John would take out his hearing aids if putting the phone to his ear or just use speakerphone.

Linda Druoin Max 6 Super Power BTE wearer
Sixty-two year old Linda Druoin, a former teacher and principal was first diagnosed with hearing loss due to otosclerosis (a malformation of the bones in the middle ear) when she was 15. She began wearing hearing aids at the age of 22 and shortly after had corrective surgery to improve her hearing, but by the age of 49 Linda had lost all hearing in one ear.

For many years Linda has struggled to find the right hearing aids. Wanting to avoid a cochlear implant as a solution, she grew accustomed to wearing hearing aids that would whistle when she touched her hair, turned her head, or would lay down for a rest. She also found it very difficult to carry on a conversation with another person in the car if the radio was turned on. Then Linda found Max™, Unitron’s new Super Power hearing aid.
Max has brought back many of the sounds of life Linda thought were irretrievably lost. “I can hear so many sounds I haven’t heard in years. They are the little sounds in your everyday life that come back to you. For instance, I can hear the scratch of my pen on paper and the splash of water as I dip in my canoe paddle into the lake. I can even hear whispers in church! They are like small gifts I’m presented with each day, and I cherish each and every one of them,” says Linda.
Linda’s husband no longer complains that the TV is too loud. In fact, he thinks the sound is too soft for him to hear! Linda no longer relies on lip reading or closed captions to follow along with programs. TV watching has become a relaxing and enjoyable experience now that she’s wearing Max.
The sound Linda is enjoying most these days is the sound of her little grandson’s voice. “At five months of age he is experimenting with his voice, and I can now enjoy every coo and chortle, and really appreciate the changes in his development.”
The transition to Max has been very comfortable for Linda. People with severe hearing loss need hearing aids that can withstand day to day wear and tear, and are resistant to dust, debris and perspiration. In the past Linda would remove her hearing instruments when gardening or when around the pool, but she’s able to wear her Max hearing aids through all her activities without ever having to remove them.
