Ear Wax Micro Suction
I'm delighted to announce that I have completed the Ear Wax Micro-Suction course and I have a qualification that is accredited by B.A.A. (British Academy of Audiology) and B.S.H.A.A. (British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists)
Micro Suction quite simply uses suction for extracting wax and dry skin out of the ear canal. It is mush less invasive, safer and certainly reduces the risk of infection over the older method which is syringing or irrigation.

Hearing Aid Summer Care Tips
While you may enjoy being out catching some rays, your hearing aids prefer to chill in the shade.
The heat is not your hearing aids friend and can do them some serious damage. But if you follow our easy care guide, you and your hearing aids will be able to enjoy lots of fun, with your family and friends in the sun.
Storage Wars
Proper storage is really important for maintaining your hearing aids and batteries. Make sure you keep them in a cool, dry place and not in direct sunlight or extreme heat, like inside your car.
Excessive heat can damage the delicate elements of your hearing aid, shortening its life. And, as the outer casing is made of plastic, it could melt in very high temperatures. But damage isn't just caused by heat. Changes in temperature, caused by things like going from a cool, air-conditioned room into the blazing hot sunshine, can make moisture develop inside your hearing aids.
Preventing Unwanted Guests
The hot, humid weather is ideal for germs, bacteria and fungi to grow and thrive, so regular cleaning is essential to keep your hearing aids free of unwanted guests. Keep cleaning cloths handy and don't allow moisture to sit on your hearing aids.
Sink or Swim
Don't wear your hearing aids in the pool unless it's a proper waterproof one. Water-resistant hearing aids and accessories will withstand things like splashes of rain, but they won't survive if they're submerged in water when you go swimming.
Be Prepared
Before you go away make a checklist - don't ruin your holiday by forgetting your hearing aid accessories. Make sure you take back-up supplies of essentials like batteries and tubes. Then you can spend less time worrying and more time enjoying yourself.
Stock Up
To stock up on supplies before you go on your holidays, or to get your hearing aids cleaned and checked before you depart call into us at North West Hearing & Mobility.

Padraig Meets Leo
The launch of the "Mind Your Hearing" initiative took place recently at Trinity College, Dublin hosted by Ronan Collins. Special guest was Minister Leo Varadkar T.D. who welcomed this new initiative which seeks to promote good hearing health and early action on hearing loss.
Mr Padraig MacGinty, MISHAA & FSHAA, registrar of ISHAA (Irish Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists), and owner of North West Hearing & Mobility, Letterkenny and Sligo Hearing Centre, Sligo said "those experiencing the inital signs of hearing loss sometimes tend to delay making an appointment which may over time cause further issues however our hearing assessment is free and we offer home trials of hearing aids in many cases"
Mr MacGinty explained that there are grants available to cover the cost and hearing aids are customised to each customer, "every customer is different so our audiologists take the time to work through the selection and fitting proces, hearing aids are so small now that they've become next to invisible. Our audiologists are experienced and have specifically trained to attain the highest industry qualifications"
The message is clear get you hearing checked if you think there's any loss of hearing, its free and simple

Registrar" of the Irish Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists I.S.H.A.A.
ISHAA - New registrar - Padraig MacGinty
Well I'm just back from a few very busy days in Dublin. the I.S.H.A.A. Spring meeting education days where held at the Clyde Court Hotel, Ballybridge.
We listened to a fantastic range of speakers from different fields of expertise within the Audiology Profession. Lots of information to digest and put into practice.
The highlight for me however came during the A.G.M., when I was inaugarated as the new "Registrar" of the Irish Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (I.S.H.A.A.). An immense honour and one that I hope to adopt with "gusto"
